Lake Superior Academy is hiring a K/1 Grade Teacher.  Must have a Teacher Certification.

Lake Superior Academy located in Sault Ste Marie is a tuition free public school academy serving children in grades K-5th. The K/1 Grade Teacher is responsible for creating a safe, engaging, and supportive learning environment that fosters academic excellence and the social, emotional, and personal growth of students. This position delivers standards-aligned instruction that builds foundational skills in literacy, mathematics, science, and social studies while encouraging curiosity, critical thinking, and a lifelong love of learning. The 3rd Grade Teacher collaborates with students, families, and colleagues to promote student achievement and support the mission and values of the school.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties:

  • Develop and deliver engaging, standards-aligned lesson plans that meet the academic, social, and developmental needs of third-grade students.

  • Create a positive, inclusive, and structured classroom environment that promotes student engagement, responsibility, and respect.

  • Differentiate instruction to accommodate diverse learning styles, abilities, and individual student needs.

  • Assess student learning through a variety of methods, including assignments, projects, quizzes, tests, observations, and classroom participation.

  • Monitor student progress, maintain accurate academic records, and use assessment data to inform instructional decisions.

  • Foster the development of foundational literacy, mathematics, science, and social studies skills through engaging and effective instructional practices.

  • Establish and maintain effective classroom management practices that encourage positive student behavior and a safe learning environment.

  • Collaborate with colleagues to align curriculum, analyze student data, and support school improvement initiatives.

  • Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress, academic performance, and behavioral concerns.

  • Participate in Individualized Education Program (IEP), Section 504, and other student support meetings as required.

  • Integrate instructional technology and innovative teaching strategies to enhance student learning.

  • Participate in school activities, meetings, professional development, and other assigned duties.

  • Maintain a safe and positive learning environment for all students.

  • Maintain effective communication with students, parents, and school staff.

  • Regular and predictable attendance.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education or a related field. A master's degree is a plus.

  • Valid Michigan teaching certificate with the appropriate elementary grade-level endorsement.

  • Strong knowledge of elementary curriculum, child development, and evidence-based instructional practices.

  • Ability to develop engaging lessons that promote academic achievement and the social-emotional development of young learners.

  • Excellent classroom management, communication, and interpersonal skills.

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in planning, instruction, and assessment.

  • Proficiency in integrating instructional technology into the classroom.

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, families, and school leadership to support student success.
